first_img The Cinematic Sex of Marvel’s Netflix UniverseSeason Two Made Iron Fist Cool… How Did That Happen? A short teaser for Netflix and Marvel’s upcoming Defenders series made its way onto the internet this morning. It doesn’t show much, but the timestamp in the corner appears to reveal its premiere date. The teaser doesn’t show much. It’s just security camera footage from the inside of an elevator. The original video was even called “Midland Circle Security Elevator B.” You’d never know it was promoting a new Marvel property until you watch it.As the image fades in, the four people standing in the elevator begin to look very familiar. It quickly becomes clear that the passengers are Matt Murdock, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and… Danny Rand. Yeah, he’s here too. This crossover series was planned long before we knew just how terrible Iron Fist was. Fortunately, everyone else in the elevator is so cool; I’m willing to put up with Danny if it means seeing Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Power Man team up.The original video has since been taken down by Netflix for some reason, but this is the internet. Once something gets out, it’s out. Especially when it’s a hotly anticipated Marvel series. There are a few intriguing things about this teaser. The first is that Matt Murdock isn’t wearing his Daredevil costume. He has on his everyday lawyer clothes, and a makeshift mask covering his face. Did he not have time to change into the suit? Did he not want to be the only one in costume when everyone else fights crime in street clothes? The other is how exhausted and pissed they all look. It’s possible that this is hinting at something that comes later in the season. Each hero looks like they’ve been through hell to get to this elevator. Where are they going? Who knows? Does it have something to do with The Hand? Maybe Madame Gao will finally get her turn as a proper villain. We’ll have to wait to find out. That’s the other exciting thing about this teaser. We now know exactly how long we have to wait. Watch the time stamp in the corner after Jessica Jones destroys the security camera. If that’s anything to go by, we can expect to see The Defenders on August 18, 2017.That’s not the only number that matters either. In the top left corner of the video, you can see 23.253.120.81. Paste that into your web browser, and you’ll be taken to nybulletin.com. It’s a fake newspaper site filled with hints regarding the plot of the upcoming series. The main story is an interview with the Meachum siblings from Iron Fist. Look at the archives on the bottom of the page, and you’ll find some interesting headlines. Luke Cage is in jail. Daredevil hasn’t shown up in a while. And then there’s the story about Patsy Walker. That’s Trish in Jessica Jones. What houseguest could that paper be referring to? Will we see Trish suit up as Hellcat in the series? The most recent cover gives us a little more information about the elevator we saw The Defenders waiting in. Midland Circle is a new highrise in Manhattan. It’s not a stretch to imagine that the villains of the series are behind its construction. Given the rest of the page, could it have something to do with the Meachums? The Crackpot scientist story seems to hint at Kun Lun as well. Man, I really hope there’s not too much Iron Fist in this series. Or if there is, I hope it’s handled better. Also the ad for Colleen Wing’s dojo leads to its own website with an amazing video advertising The Wing Way. Everything about it is great and further demonstrates that Colleen Wing needs her own series. Unfortunately, at this point, her site seems to be an ad for Iron Fist. Oh well, it’s still better than the actual show. Oh, and an ad on that page links to Ward Meachum’s LinkedIn profile. How deep does this thing go? Stay on targetlast_img read more
